CLOSED Poker Advice Contest 1 Year, 6 Months ago Karma: 9
Anyone who has played live poker knows that it helps to have some tips on what to expect at the poke room.

The best tip will receive at T-shirt from www.pmspokerwear.com , have their name and tip announced on WPH and have the option of becoming Woman Poker Player's "Poker Face of the Month."

List your tips in this post to be considered.

Rules: Consideration will only be given to Women (as much fun as it would be to see some of the men walking around a poker room in a PMS shirt. Let's be respectful of our contributor PMS Pokerwear)

The tip must be advice to a woman just entering live events. It can contain "unwritten" rules of live play, suggestions on what to wear, what to bring, rules, suggestions on how to present yourself etc...

Be creative and good luck!!

I think one tip would be to remember that you aren't alone everyone had to play their first live game, so don't let the other players intimidate you (actually that's part of what they are supposed to do in poker - remember) so take it for what it is. Be confident, you are supposed to be there, and realize that its all part of poker for other players to throw you off of your game.

I remember that the first time I played a live tournament I alerted the dealer that it was my first time. He really helped me out with some of the table rules, courtesies etc. and made me feel much more confident. I let him know without telling the whole table because I felt like that would affect how they played. Anyway, I recommend that strategy for anyone thinking about "jumping in".

now my first time was a little different..I did walk right up and say to the whole table it was my first time. I think it broke the ice. It also alllowed the table a little freedom to chuckle when I found myself waiting my turn to look at my cards and with all eyes upon me picked up the wrong corners of the cards...lol...I gave a cute glance back up at the table backed of my cards and gave them a twist and tried again. It only happened once. But i was three shades of pink for a good 5 mins I think. I played one hand on my first table, won. Played one hand on my second table won that. Played one hand on the third table and won that. I was really confident by the time final table came and was chip leader. the 45 man game paid top 5 I went out 6th being the second highest in chips at the table.
So advice is ...

*practice looking at your 2 hole cards before you go to the game.

*Keep an eye on who has chips(it's not done for you)

Everything else you know from on line....like don't push a "non nutz" hand with a stack bigger than you before you get to the money. I still kick myself..but I enjoyed the game non the less.

So get out there you are gonna love it!

I was in a game once when my opponent said "good hand" and was about to toss their cards in. Someone next to them said "stop" and put his hands in the person's hand and picked out a winning hand. Well, knowing that if a person can pull a card "out" of someone's hand, they might also be capable of putting one "in". So of course, I made my point and won the pot but since it was a private club, and wanting to keep everyone happy, my opponent was also paid the pot, an equal amount. In a casino, the outcome might've been different though. It can be called collusion in a very broad sense of the word also.

My tip to you would be to keep your eyes open and make sure noone touches anyone else's cards. If you lose the pot because of such an occurance, make a stink over it...to me it should kill the hand automatically. The dealer or pit boss might agree or disagree, but you'll never know what the policy is over such a thing otherwise.

I really don't expect to win with my tip but it's a very good one just the same. You must protect your hand which also means protecting your back, as well. (It's really pretty basic and applicable in any respectable poker room or club...you never, EVER touches someone else's cards when it's in play!)

My tip is keep your face as straight as you can and give no tells, I know this sounds obvious but I was thrown in at the deep end with my first real game with real cards being on TV . I have watched many a game before and since and without you knowing your face and body do things you just can't help so when I was playing I kept my mind on the rules of the television play, count out the 5 seconds my hand had to show and just zoned to my play.
No one had a clue how to read me and i won
Hope this helps
