Women's Poker Hour With Special Guest Liz Lieu
Thursday, 18 November 2010 13:50

Join Amy and Jen on Women's Poker Hour with their special guest Liz Lieu.

Born in Vietnam, Liz moved to North America at one year old.  She was raised in Colorado with her older sister. At the age of 13, Liz was playing Chinese poker with friends and began a long love affair with the cards. She started her own home game when she was 18 with a friend, where they spread hold'em and pai gow tiles in what was to become a lucrative short-term business.

When her father had a heart attack, Liz's entrepreneurial spirit kicked in, and she told her parents to quit their jobs and enjoy the rest of their lives. She stepped up her game and began providing for them, which is what she has done ever since.

Liz took her $80-$160 game and a sizable bankroll to Vegas and became a professional poker player. Just as she began moving up in limits, however, she ran into some personal obstacles that caused her to nearly go broke and begin all over again. With the help of her best friend, John Phan, she found the confidence and strength to rebuild her bankroll, focus completely on her game, and was soon climbing the ladder of success. She now plays regularly at the $400-$800 limits, in addition to tournaments all over the world.

Nicknamed the Poker Diva by fellow poker players because of her flair for style and fashion, Liz has excelled at limit hold'em cash games for a number of years, but she didn't embrace tournament play until the 2005 World Series of Poker. When John Phan encouraged her to enter the $1500 no-limit hold'em event, she ended up in fifth place with over $168,000 in prize money. She went on to place 12th in the $5000 no-limit hold'em event the same year and cashed in the $3000 tournament as well. Since that time Liz has finished in the green in many international tournaments, continues to be a leader in the professional poker field, and has secured a sponsorship with ChiliPoker.com.

Liz is also well known for her charity work and her giving nature. "Helping out all the unfortunates back in my country have always been a huge thing to me. Being able to help others has given me the kind of personal fulfillment that I could truly say is priceless." she says on her official website LizLieu.net.
