| Marsha Waggoner Becomes First Woman Inducted into Australian Poker Hall of Fame |
|
By Danielle Adams-Benham It was only 12 months ago at the Aussie Millions Poker Championship Player Welcome Party that Crown Casino Melbourne announced; awarded and hung on the wall the first of the Poker Hall of Fame Inductees. Until now; only male greats of Australian Poker lined the walls. It was my pleasure last night to witness a very surprised Marsha Waggoner be called to the podium to receive her certification and have her name hung in the hall with the godfathers of Australian poker. It was evident from the speech by Mr Maurie Peers (AKA The Godfather of Australian Poker) to those that knew Marsha that she had indeed been chosen. They described the voting of her as anonymous amongst the board. They talked of Marsha as a Queensland girl who made her way to the states now years back with most of her life surrounded by poker; a true inspiration to Australian Women Poker players and a well deserved recipient. A teary eyed Marsha made a wonderful thankyou speech to all of those involved. Congrats to Marsha on this amazing historical award receipt. Indeed she has made a huge impact to date on women poker players in Australia and will no doubt continue to do so.
