There are various reasons as to why people celebrate mothers day and in every country the origin of the celebration of “Mothers Day” varies. Most people agree the idea of Mothers Day came from the ancient Greeks and their custom of mother worship, particularly the worship of Phrygian Goddess of Earth.

Others believe mothers day originated from Ancient Rome where the ancient Roman goddess Juno Lucina, the goddess of childbirth (also the protector and special counsellor of the state) was celebrated and mothers were given gifts.

As centuries turned so did the translation of why cultures celebrate this fabulous day around the world. As examples, in Europe there were several long standing traditions where a specific Sunday was set aside to honour motherhood and mothers and called Mothering Sunday. In the United States was the Mother's Day Proclamation by Julia Ward Howe which is a book written in 1870. The Mothers Day Proclamation was tied to Julia's belief that women had a responsibility to shape their societies at the political level.

To implant the continuation of Mother Day celebrations on a permanent level; in 1912, Anna Jarvis trademarked the phrases "Second Sunday in May" and "Mother's Day", and created the Mother's Day International Association. Mothers day was solidified on a permanent level globally after the work of the association. Most countries celebrate Mothers Day on the first Sunday in May. There are many others however who have a different day, usually in the Spring months of March, April, May or June.

Regardless of which day it falls on, this is the day that we celebrate our maternal figures, right back to the times of our Ancient ancestors -  Mothers Day is a day for giving - to our “mothers.” That of course includes all of us poker moms of the world.

Being a poker mom myself, life is very different for me then for other moms. Sure I love perfumes, make-up, clothing, shoes, handbags and bath packs -  just like any other mother does. There are; however, many gifts for poker moms which can't be given to a mother that doesn't play poker. It simply wouldn't make sense to give them to her. There are gifts that other mothers could use, but are suitable for poker moms for a very different reason. Let me elaborate and give you some handy gift ideas in the case your mom plays poker.

1.  Poker Clothing

Poker clothing is stand out attire. Shirts with catchy logos and sayings never go astray. 2. Travel Toilettre Packs

When it comes to those long live games of poker there are a few things on our poker mom necessity list which you may like to give as a thoughtful gift. Firstly, travel packs are very handy. Luxury travel bath sets which include shampoos and relaxing body washes, toiletry travel bags and travel accessories such as tooth brush containers are a must and always need upgrading from what the standard hotel provides.

3.  Poker Tote Bags

Poker moms also need larger style bags to carry their poker tools - such as ipods, phones, caps, hand sanitiser, card covers and lucky charms.  Its also great to carry snack foods to a tournament.  A backpack is good for the mom who likes to be casual or a swanky tote bag is always of use.

4. Essential Oils

Long multi-day tournaments always mean nerves and lack of sleep for your mum. Purchasing her a gift to aid these things before she steps into day two of her poker tournament could not only help her but change your life if she wins the tournament! Comfy Eye covers and ear plugs may just help that, also an essential oil diffuser to enable her to send herself relaxing scent waves as she drifts off to sleep, removing that away from home “motel” smell. 5.  Spaaaaaaaah

Your mom works hard both at the felt and well, just being your mom so you may wish to ensure your mum relaxes as much as possible by purchasing her spa gift packs, or even just massage gift certificates. There are normally spas available at your mom's favorite home away from home hotel and casino.

6.  Lucky Charm

You may want to give your mother something she will treasure and keep with her forever. There is nothing like a lucky charm, given from the heart, from her beautiful child that she would appreciate more. There are many varieties of charms that can be given from lucky crystals (Aventurine Tourmaline - specifically known for luck in gambling), to a four leaf clover bracelet,  through to something which may signify “her” poker nicname.

7.  Card Cover

You can mix a lucky charm with a card cover.  An elegant card cover in gold perhaps, or one with diamonds?  Even one with her favorite hand, or a lucky four leaf clover.  You could even engrave one for her with a special message about how much your mom means to you.

As you see, the gifts for a poker mom are endless but should be given much thought to. Your mom is special and you can help her celebrate her day by giving her something she will use. At the least, a poker mom would love something very basic – a brand new deck of cards!
