Marsha Wolak Wins WSOP Ladies Event
Monday, 04 July 2011 09:20

Out of a field of 1055 players, Marsha Wolak from Sarasota, FL was crowned the champion at the World Series of Poker Ladies event last night winning the coveted bracelet and $192,344.

The WSOP ladies event was first held in 1977, and has grown in participation since.  This year there were twelve males who also registered in the event, reportedly one was in a dress. It is the first year a man has made the final table when Jonathan Epstein came in 9th.  The player was booed on every hand he was involved in.  By accounts, there were more crowds lined up to watch and to ridicule Jonathan Epstein at the final table then there has ever been at any WSOP event.

Karina Jett, who has made the final table twice in this event with back to back fourth place finished, was the runner-up. Karina and Marsha had agreed to take an early break before they finished heads-up. The winner was declared on the first hand.  Karina held Kh-10d and Marsha held Qh-9h.  The flop was dealt Qd, Jd, 8c, and Karina pushed her chips allin.  Marsha called and improved her hand to a straight on the turn with the 10c.  The river's 3d sealed the win and the championship.
