EPT Awards Announced

The PokerStars.com European Poker Tour Awards are making a welcome return  for Season 6 with a special ceremony taking place on the very last night  of the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo. The Awards, which take place on  April 30, will mark an exciting end to what has already proved to be a  spectacularly successful season.
The Season 6 Awards differ substantially to the first EPT Awards with five
out of the seven awards bestowed according to points earned throughout the
season - including all the season’s $1,000+ side events as well as the 13
main events.

The Awards are:
•    EPT Country of the Year
•    EPT Online Qualifier of the Year
•    EPT Omaha Player of the Year
•    EPT Mixed Game Player of the Year
•    EPT Player of the Year
•    EPT Achievement of the Year (voted for by EPT players)
•    EPT People’s Choice Award (voted for by EPT players)

For all the points-based Awards, players can keep themselves in the
running right up to the very end of the EPT Grand Final. So far, it’s a
tight race in all the award categories.

The Player of the Year award will go to the competitor who has amassed the
most points across all eligible EPT Season 6 events. In theory, this could
be someone who hasn’t even won a Main Event but has enjoyed so many
cashes, or final tables, or success in the myriad side events that their
total number of points trumps all others.

The EPT Mixed Game Award will go to the player who has amassed the highest
point total in all of the qualifying Mixed Events, such as the Deuce to
Seven, Badugi, Triple Stud or 8-Game events.

Omaha Player of the Year will be the player who has accrued the most
points in that one discipline.

The Qualifier of the Year award is not simply for the many players who win
multiple EPT main event seats online but for those who – having won a
seat – go on to make good use of it.

The Country of the Year award is based on the highest points average for
players from a particular country – with only countries having ten or more
cashes eligible. All points won by players from that country will be
totalled and then divided by the number of players who cash. Martin
Kabrhel’s domination of this season’s side events, coupled with Jan
Skampa’s superb performance in winning EPT Prague could easily swing it
for the Czech Republic.

The final two awards will be subject to public vote. Shortlists for the
EPT Achievement award and the EPT People’s Choice award will be announced
at the end of EPT San Remo on April 21. All Season 6 EPT main event
players will be invited to vote online during the following week.
The EPT Awards will be officially announced by EPT presenter Michelle Orpe
during next Monday’s Nordic Poker Awards (February 15) on the eve of EPT
Copenhagen.

EPT founder and CEO John Duthie said: “We had an EPT Awards a few years
back but it was far more subjective and I think the system that’s now been
set up is going to prove extremely fair – and create some really
interesting results. I particularly like the fact that player performance
in side events is now being recognised. Side events are becoming an
increasingly important feature at EPTs and offer a great range of
alternatives to players – both in terms of the poker variations offered
and in the wide range of buy-ins. The points are pretty close at present -
and we could end up with a nail-biting finish for many of the awards.”
