Overlay & Lace: Model and Poker Pro Christina Lindley Wins Big in U.S. Championship of Online Poker

As a female poker player, the Rounders wisdom that "In the game of life, women are the rake" has always irked me. After poker player, actress and lingerie model Christina Lindley's six figure score at PokerStars' Event #4 of the US Championship of Online Poker (USCOOP) , I think it's time to rebrand that old maxim to "In the game of life, lingerie is the overlay."

The USCOOP event, held on Tuesday, November 23rd featured super-deep stacks and an epic overlay (an overlay occurs when the prize pool exceeds the money generated by the players' entry fees) of over $300,000. Only 1326 players registered for the $320 tourney but more than 2300 were needed to meet the $750,000 guarantee. This meant that the average player's entry fee was actually worth over $550!

lindleypokerAlthough she only learned poker a couple years ago, Christina Lindley can hardly be considered average. Christina has been sewing up big cashes in both live and online tournaments from her 63rd place finish in the Main Event of the North American Poker Tour in Los Angeles to a number of other impressive online cashes including 2nd in an FTOPS (Full Tilt Online Poker Series) event for $106,000. A few days after her USCOOP victory, Christina came 12th in Event #7 (another overlay, this time just under 100K) of USCOOP for $3900.

After hearing about the unbelievable odds in the $320 USCOOP #4, forum regulars on sites such as 2+2 and pocketfives scrambled for stakes and to register on time. Lindley, on the other hand, had been planning to play in the event in advance. She told Woman Poker Player, "I decided to play this particular tournament when I heard about the sick structure." Although Lindley says that "I have never stayed up all night playing poker", she drank more coffee than she'd ever had in her life as she played from 6 PM till 10:30 AM the following day.

The all-nighter finally ended when Lindley, with a hefty chip lead heads-up over Happymon32 (about 8.2 to 5 million chips), was dealt jack-nine offsuit on the button. She min-raised to 200K. Happymon32 called and the flop came Ace-eight-ten with two diamonds. Happymon checked, Lindley bet out 167,650, Happymon raised to 500,000 and then Lindley went all in with her open-ended straight draw. Happymon32 called with eight-ten for two pair. The turn was a meaningless three, but a queen on the river anointed a new American poker queen.

Lindley was born in Atlanta, moved to Los Angeles for modeling and acting, and recently relocated to Las Vegas to pursue poker full time. Her roommate is fellow high stakes tournament player, Lauren Kling, who was previously interviewed on Women's Poker Hour . Lindley said, "I've been busting my butt studying and working and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon." She advises women players starting out in multi-table tournaments to play a lot of volume and to observe strong players in online tournaments as much as possible.
