Another chapter in the meteoric rise of former New York City derivatives trader Andy Frankenberger has been written after he took down the $100,000 first prize in the $25k buy-in PartyPoker.com Premier League Poker Mixed Game Championship at the Playboy Club in London. Andy now adds this title to that of WPT Season IX Player of the Year, a WSOP bracelet and a recent final table appearance at the World Poker Finals at Foxwoods. “This feels really good, it is my first success this side of the pond,” said Andy. “I can sort of see myself having another run at WPT Player of the Year.”
It wasn’t all plain sailing for Frankenberger though, who overcome 24-year-old Watford pro Andrew Feldman after a marathon heads-up. “This is even more satisfying after all the controversy in the tournament. When you have had a low the highs feel much better.” The controversy surrounded criticism by pros, particularly Luke ‘FullFlush1’ Schwartz in the commentary box, on his approach to certain hands. Andy insists he adapted his game to meet the unique Premier League Poker points structure. Mike Sexton, who joined Jesse May in the commentary box for the final was full of praise for Frankenberger insisting that during the heads-up 65% of the time he had the worst hands in his battle with Feldman. The runner-up Feldman was devastated to miss out on the title and was overcome with emotion at the climax. Curled up in the corner, the atmosphere at the Playboy Club visibly changed as the highly rated English high stakes pro was comforted by friends. “I really wanted to prove to myself that i could take down such a title,” he said. |
