They came seeking sunshine, spa treatments and top-notch poker - and only the weather let them down! Among the 91 players who took part were Team PokerStars Pros Veronica Dabul, Katja Thater, Maria "Maridu" Mayrinck and Sandra Naujoks as well as other poker pros such as Annette Obrestad, JJ Liu and Shirley Rosario, and EPT London Ladies winner Dagmara Aleksandrowicz and numerous wives and girlfriends of players competing in other events at the PCA. The tournament was won by Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Rousso who claimed the first prize of $24,000 after beating 27-year-old American professional Halli Pinson. Afterwards Pinson, who won her seat on PokerStars, said the tournament was one of the toughest ladies-only events she had ever played. She said: "This event was a lot more serious than most ladies tournaments. I didn't recognize that many faces but the field seemed a lot more experienced than usual. These women had come to play, and they had come to win! Vanessa Rousso dominated the event though - she had good cards and she's an experienced player: the combination was lethal." A total of 16 women made the money in the event A second $300 event was held on Sunday, January 10. It attracted 73 players and was won by Diane Linke.
